Working with Trimay Wear Plate

TRIMAY WEAR PLATE can be readily cut to dimensions using Plasma Arc, Arc Air or Gouging Rods. Plates can be welded together using normal steel electrodes to join the backing plate. Standard Chrome Carbide electrodes should be used to protect exposed edges. Welding does not affect the wear resisting properties of TRIMAY WEAR PLATE.

To achieve satisfactory strength welds during fabrication, it is essential that contamination from the hardfacing does not occur. Following fabrication, gaps can be capped with a standard Chrome Carbide electrode.

Strength welds are normally carried out without pre-heat using either low hydrogen mild steel electrodes or austenitic stainless steel electrodes.

TRIMAY WEAR PLATE can be rolled along and across the seams of deposit. If possible, the design should allow the plate to be rolled with the beads so the cracks are “closed up” during rolling.
Radii achievable:

14mm plate 5" radii
12mm plate 6" radii

TRIMAY WEAR PLATE cannot be machined by conventional means, though surface grinding is possible. It can be machined by Spark Erosion (E.D.M.) and electro-chemical techniques.
